Clyde Eugene "Gene" Copeland, 80, passed away 3:29 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his residence.
Born in Eldred on February 14, 1937, he was the son of Clyde C. and Frances (Scoggins) Copeland.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he worked as a machinist for over 32 years for the Olin Corporation before retiring in 1999.
On June 14, 1957 in Indiana, he married Marcella Welch. She survives.
Surviving also are a step-son, Dennis Haney of Bethalto; daughter, Patricia Greer of Holiday Shores; step-daughter, Delores Jean Howard of Brighton; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; five brothers, Larry Copeland, Kerry Gen Copeland, Rodger Copeland all of Cottage Hills, Donald Copeland of Hartford, Kenny Copeland of Bethalto; and three sisters, Diane Frasier of Rosewood Heights, Linda Barton of Brighton' and Carol Copeland of Cottage Hills.
Preceding in death were his parents; two sons, Darrin Copeland and Randy Copeland; daughter, Pam Shemwell; brother, Gerald Copeland; and two sisters, Lois and Geneva.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Pastor Don Arnold will officiate.
Burial will follow in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
