Clifford Twente, 93, of Bethalto, Illinois, was carried to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 while at La Bella in Alton.
He was born on June 27, 1930 in Olive Branch, Illinois to Rev. Charlie Twente and Beulah Twente (nee Warren).
He married Verna Laura Johnson on July 1, 1949 in South Roxana, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2023 after 74 years of marriage.
Clifford worked at Laclede Steel in Alton as a Steelworker for over 30 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and raising farm animals. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Clifford is survived by his children, Earl (Linda) Twente of Bunker Hill, Phyllis Turnage of Beaumont, Texas, Krista Twente of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren plus one on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Clifford was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lyndell and Norman Earl; and one son-in-law, Rev. Charles Turnage.
Visitation will be from 10am until time of service at 11am on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kermit Barker will officiate, assisted by Pastor Erik Scottberg. Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cornerstone Building Fund or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
