Clifford L. Ross

Born April 16, 1922 in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of Leonard and Pearl (Perrin) Ross.
Clifford served in the infantry during WWII. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in the European Theater. He graduated from Purdue under the G.I. Bill after serving in the war and went on to work as a chemist at the U.S. Reduction Company in downtown Alton until is shut down in 1981. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service until the late 1980's. Clifford enjoyed being an active member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman's Club, the VFW Post 1308 and the Godfrey Lion's Club. Spending time with family and friends was a prominent aspect of his life. He faithfully attended Community Christian Church in Alton every Sunday. He married the former Edith Sexton on December 18, 1954 in Indiana. She preceded him in death in June 1991. He married the former Marjorie R. Weiss. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Clifford "Chip"and his wife Julie of Alton, a daughter Mary Crabb and her husband Lundi of Panama City, FL, four grandchildren; Kenneth Ross and his wife Julia, Kyle Ross, Kelsey Ross and Hayley Lanier and a sister, Virginia Cox of Naples, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two brothers; Leonard Ross and JR Ross.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Community Christian Church in Alton. Pastor Tom Cater will officiate.
