Clayton “Jug” Harrison, 91, of Goreville, Illinois, and formerly of Granite City, passed away peacefully at 8:11 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.
Born on December 26, 1933, in Granite City, Clayton was the son of the late Raymond and Derona (Bilyeu) Harrison. A proud United States Navy veteran, he devoted 26 years of honorable service to his country before retiring.
Clayton’s passion for sports began early in life, leading him to play professional baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers. After his playing days, he owned and operated Club Jug in Granite City, where many gathered to enjoy good times and lasting friendships. He was employed at the Granite City Street Department for several years before retiring as superintendent of streets.
He was a longtime and proud member of both the Ainad Shriners and the Granite City Masonic Lodge, serving with great pride and commitment.
Clayton loved his lake life at Lake of Egypt, where he spent countless days with his “Cabin Crew” — fishing, laughing, and creating lifelong memories. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed baseball, softball, basketball, and bowling. He also loved dancing, gardening, cooking for others, playing cards and puzzles, and hosting parties that brought joy to all who attended. A trip to the casino or a day on the water was always a favorite pastime.
Above all, Clayton cherished his family and many dear friends. He will be remembered for his generous heart, fun-loving spirit, and the countless ways he made life brighter for everyone around him.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherrie and Randy Lisson of Granite City, Donna Mank of Granite City and Debbie and Pat Foster of Granite City; four grandchildren and spouses, Justin and Blannie Lisson of Granite City, Patrick and Michelle Foster of Germany, Jenna Lisson of San Francisco, California and Michael and Amber Weeks of Okawville; two great grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Tucker; a sister, Ollie Derr of Granite City; a brother, John Harrison of Iowa; nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oren Harrison and a sister, Anna Tinkum.
