Claudia Vaughn

Claudia Virginia Vaughn, 69 of Jerseyville died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at home, surrounded by her family, after a long hard fought battle for many years with cancer related issues.

Claudia was born September 16th, 1946 in Jersey County, the daughter of the late Claude and Mildred (Bowers) Gross.

Claudia married the love of her life Jimmy Lee Vaughn on October 29th, 1966 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville, and they celebrated 48 plus wonderful years of marriage, he survives.

Claudia was a 1964 graduate of Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville. She attended nurse’s school at Missouri Baptist, and then to Washington University where she became a dental assistant. Claudia worked many years for Dr. Kenneth Beach and later Dr. Glen Enloe , until the birth of her third child. From there she worked part time for many years with the Jersey Community School District as a secretary. Claudia was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville and served on numerous committee’s there over the years, including her favorite for many years, the Christmas decorating committee. Claudia had a deep love for three things, god, family, and Christmas. If you ever had the privilege to see Claudia and Jimmy’s home during Christmas you might think you were actually at the North Pole. Every room carefully decorated in its own unique theme. She was the glue that always held the family together through difficult times, and thrived at being the best mother, wife, and friend she could be. She will be sadly missed by so many.

Survivors include her husband Jimmy Vaughn, a son Tony Vaughn, daughter Aimee Vaughn, and daughter Amanda Vaughn, all of Jerseyville. Four grandchildren, Ashton Hoots (Jarod), Brayden Morris, Mackenzie Morris, and Miranda Morris all of Jerseyville. One Great-Grandchild Harper Hoots of Jerseyville. Also, a brother Donald Gross Sr. (Marian) and a sister Lela Ferguson of Jerseyville.

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Doris Christiansen, a brother in law Arden Christiansen, and brother in law Ronald Ferguson.

Visitation will be from 4-8 Thursday September 24th at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and Friday September 25th from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10 a.m. The reverend’s Brent Meyer and Ed Haun will officiate, along with life long friend and reverend Jan Smith.Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Charge of Arrangements
