Clarence W. Williams, 87, died at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. Born October 22, 1924 in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was the son of Fred and Evelyn (Gollott) Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He worked as a machinist engineer on a riverboat before taking a job with Laclede Steel. He retired from Laclede in 1981 as a maintenance supervisor after 20 years of service. On June 13, 1948 in Biloxi, Mississippi, he married the former Shannon Breal. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1990.
Surviving is a daughter, Beth Ann Williams of St. Ann, MO, a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Nancy Williams of Alton, two grandchildren, Lisa Loncaric (Michael) and Christopher Williams (Christi), four great grandchildren, Max and Mia and Alex and Zach, one brother, Richard Eldon Williams of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, three sisters-in-law, Doris Williams of New York, Ona Lee Williams of Oceans Springs, Mississippi, and Claire Breal of Biloxi, Mississippi, a brother-in-law, Carl Hancock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a niece, Glenda Dartez of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, Fred Williams Jr., Edwin Williams, Joel Williams, and Hubert Williams, and three sisters, Ruth Young, Augusta Hebert, and Alice Hancock.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
