Clarence Junior Townsend, 73, died at 1:55 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 17, 1935 in Camden, TN to Clarence E. and Addie (Smith) Townsend.
On April 9, 1999 in Edwardsville he married Deonna Lou Walker and she survives. He owned and operated Townsend Auto Sales for over 50 years in Alton. Surviving are one son, Clarence Michael Townsend and his wife Lois of Alton. One grandchild, Clarence Michael Townsend II of Rosewood Heights and two great grandchildren, Haley Greeling of Cottage Hills, and Zander Michael Townsend of Rosewood Heights. One step-daughter Ann Wright of Cottage Hills, and two step-sons, Daniel Harding of Alton, and Jim and Sandy Lyons of Godfrey. One sister, Adylean Earp of Brighton and one nephew, Mark Earp of Brighton. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one son, Gary Townsend .
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon of Saturday with Reverend Carl Cook to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
