Clara Duncan

Clara B. (Belangee) Duncan, 92,  was called home to be with our Lord on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 2:28 am. 

She was born on September 26, 1931, in Alton, IL the daughter of Ira and Cecil (Gates) Markel.  She married Edwin Lee Belangee in 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1982.  She later married Jerome "Jerry" Duncan on May 17, 2003, and he survives. 

Clara was a lifelong member of Brown Street Baptist Church.  Her life has been such a wonderful example of what a woman of faith looks like.  She has served the Lord wholeheartedly.  She will leave her mark on this world through a long chain of believers.  Some she raised, but many others were touched through her patient, peaceful spirit and gentle kindness.  She will be forever missed but will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. 

Clara is survived by her husband, Jerry Duncan of Alton, IL;  daughter, Diana Wilson of Alton, IL; son, Dennis (Terri) Belangee of Florissant, MO; a sister, Dorothy "Dot” Minks of Alton, IL; a granddaughter, Melissa (Mark) Denby of Lee's Summit, MO; great grandchildren, Taylor, Gabriella and Emry; a brother-in-law, Edgar "Dink" Abbott of Alton, IL; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edwin Lee; brothers, Eugene, Arthur, Homer, and Jack Markel; and sisters, Marie Markel and Virginia "Ginny" Abbott. 

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:30 am at Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton, IL. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to the Brown Street Baptist Church.
