Cindy Jernigan, age 52 of Smithboro, Illinois, passed away suddenly at her home Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Funeral was held 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorials are asked to be made online under the tribute tab www.donnellwiegand.com to help support the family.
Cindy Jo Jarnigan, daughter of Dean Hayden and Peggy Kay Spurlock Hayden, was born January 13, 1974, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Cindy married and was a devoted wife to John Patrick Jernigan and had 3 wonderful children: Jesse Lee Jernigan of Ohio, Leslie Michael Jernigan (Emilia Langel) of Dekalb, Illinois, and Katie Jo Jernigan (Zachory Proctor) of Mulberry Grove.
Cindy was the world’s best grandmother to Colton Jernigan(6) and 4 grandpups: River, Ivy, Hazel, and Iris.

Cindy loved her family more than anything. She would do absolutely anything for her children. She was always ready for a good time and meaningful conversations, and she had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for.
While working full-time at the hospital, she was also going to school to earn her degree in central sterilization. Even with everything on her plate—raising children, working full-time, and going to school—she still managed to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.
After graduating, she stepped into a full-time role as a facilitator at Greenville Hospital. She truly loved what she did. She knew her job inside and out, took it seriously, and carried herself with pride in everything she did.
Outside of work, her favorite place to be was near the water—whether it was a trip to the beach or out on a boat. She loved being in the water so much that we always joked there must be a mermaid somewhere in the Jernigan pool.
