Chris Fischer

Chris C. “Bud” Fischer, 93, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home in Godfrey. Born December 29, 1930 in Staunton, IL, he was the son of C.C. Fischer and Gladys (Carleton) Fischer. 

Chris served in the U.S. Army and was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. He became president of Fischer Lumber Company in March 1958 and remained president for 37 years until his retirement in December 1995. 

On October 2, 1954 he married the former Patricia Beaty at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2022. Surviving are six children, David Fischer (Caroline) of Godfrey, Susan Chappell (Tom) of Alton, Laura Morrissey (Steve) of College Grove, TN, Nancy Dees (Rick) of Maryville, James Fischer (Cheryl) of Godfrey, and Edward Fischer (Marla) of Godfrey. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Danielle Kane (Dan), Sharon Fischer (Ryan), Bobby Fischer (Amy), Michael Chappell (Jen), Samantha Dodson (Corey), Katie Morrissey (Lucas Buchholz), Stephen Morrissey (Elizabeth), Patrick Crutcher (Nikki), Joe Crutcher, Catherine Crutcher (Cole Davis), Christopher Fischer (Kelsey Walsh), Jacob Fischer, Lauren Fischer, Sarah Fischer (Casey Jimison), and Abby Fischer as well as 18 great grandchildren and one due mid April 2024, and a sister, Therese Schulz of Godfrey. 

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant grandchild, Emily Grace Fischer, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Bernice Beaty and a brother-in-law, Paul Schulz. 

A Mass of Chrisitan burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Father Don Wolford will officiate. A private burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors. Following the burial, a celebration of life will be held from 11:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Alton Wood River Sportsmen’s Club, 3109 Godfrey Road. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
