Cheryl Stitzel

Cheryl Stitzel, nee Boone, 69, of Belleville, IL, born August 9, 1956, in East St. Louis, IL, died Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Cheryl was a woman deeply loved by many and known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She spent many years working at the hometown bar and restaurant, Chuck Inn, where she became more than an employee, she was family to coworkers and customers alike. Her warmth, humor, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Family meant everything to Cheryl. She showed her love through her actions, always doing everything she could for those she cared about. One of her greatest joys in life was reuniting with family each May at the annual family reunions, moments that brought her the most happiness and peace. She treasured those times together and the memories they created.

Cheryl leaves behind countless cherished memories, especially those held close by her children. Her oldest son fondly remembers spending time with her at Chuck Inn, where she worked for so many years. Wednesday nights were always special, when the jukebox man came in and it was fast-food night, simple traditions that became some of his most treasured memories. Her youngest son will always remember Cheryl for her incredible sense of humor. She loved to laugh and was always telling jokes, bringing joy and smiles to those around her. Cheryl had a special way of showing love in the little things, like making the best ambrosia salad for a certain someone who always requested it. She delighted in horror movies and slap-happy comedies, enjoying laughter just as much as a good scare. Her sense of humor and positive outlook were contagious.

She truly had a heart of gold. Though she never had much growing up, Cheryl would give you her last $10 if you needed it. No matter what challenges life placed in her path, she never stayed down for long. If something knocked her back, she simply started over, stronger and more determined than before. She always found the good in life and refused to let anything dim her light.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her love, kindness, and unforgettable spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She will be loved for eternity.

She was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Williams; her parents, Raymond and Ethel, nee Louvier Hemme, Boone; two brothers, Clyde Patrick Boone and Walter Boone; and a sister, Gloria Ann Baum.

Surviving are her husband, Wilbur Charles Stitzel, Jr.; four children, Jason Goodnetter, Patrick (Theresa) Williams, Dylan Stitzel, and Amy Stitzel; two grandchildren, Abby Stitzel and Ava Stitzel; a brother, Daniel (Darlene) Boone; a sister, Clara Marie Chambliss; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
