He was born on November 9, 1930 in Roxana, the son of Jesse & Eliza Jane (Taylor) Haley.
He married Betty Dorreen Tatum on January 12, 1950 in England.
He served in the Army for 23 years during the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict and retired in 1969. He loved his country and was very proud to serve.
He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Manufacturing in the mold shop and retired in 1987.
He enjoyed taking his children camping; he enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling. He also loved taking his wife for drives in the country.
He was a kind and decent man and will be missed by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Betty Haley, he is also survived by three daughters and spouses, Juanita "Bernie" & Steve "Randy" Sloan of Baytown, TX, Karen "Sissy" Dooley & Merlyn Wirth of Moline, IL, and Betty & Jim Mathues of Fieldon, IL; one sister, Margie Kasting of Hartford, IL; five grandchildren and spouses, Thomas & Jennifer Parker of Nebo, IL, Janice Mathues of Hardin, IL, Mary Dooley of Minnesota, Scott & Jaime Dooley of Jerseyville, and Randall Sloan of Baytown, TX; eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Haley, and three sisters, Pauline Bayer, Juanita Elsperman, and Barbara Jean Hensley.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Monday January 25, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday January 26, 2010.
Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana with full military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
