Charles R. Walden, 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in McLeansboro, IL on April 8, 1935, the son of Clyde Walden and Lucille (Allen) Walden. He married Eulah Todd on February 26, 1955 in McLeansboro, IL.
After 43 years, he retired from Laclede Steel Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethalto since 1954 where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer for over 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going on mission trips, basketball, softball, wallyball, camping, and hunting.
Surviving are his wife, Eulah; three children and their spouses, Rhonda (Mitch) Genteman, Don (Tina) Walden and Robin Bruns; nine grandchildren and their spouses, John (Cathy) Cobbett-Walden, Todd (Juliette) Genteman, Megan (Caleb) Smith, Kyle (Jennifer) Walden, Jeffrey (Cassie) Bruns, Erin (Nick) Volkening, Julie Bruns, Rachel Walden and Charlie Walden; nine great grandchildren, Violet, Theo and Alex Genteman, Owen and Olivia Smith, Lucas, Evelyn and Kiera Walden, Bennett Volkening; and three sisters and their spouses, Dorothy Wiegand, Betty (Max) Norris and Linda (David) Watts.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John Walden (son) and Randall Walden (brother).
Visitation will be from 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at First Baptist Church Bethalto with Pastor Todd Genteman officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
