Charles Long Charles M. Long, age 73, of Alton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Alton Memorial Hospital.He was born November 18, 1943, in North Alton, the son of Martin and Fern (Reader) Long. He married Charlotte Stearns Bartow on August 12, 1983 in Alton and she survives.Charles Graduated Civic Memorial High School in 1961. He then served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He began working at Owens-Illinois and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.He worked for the IRS, and then started his own accounting service, Long and Associates, until the time of his death.Charles will be remembered as a dedicated family man who attended all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved attending games. He was an organ donor.In addition to his wife, Charlotte; he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Godar of Rosewood Heights; four step-sons, Christopher Orban of Alton, Bradley (Annette) Bartow, Jeffery (Marsha) Bartow of Kearney, MO, and Scott (Jennifer) Bartow of Godfrey; his grandchildren, Christopher and Brandon Orban, Holly, Lindsey, and Colten Bartow, Jeffery, Corey, and Bayley Bartow, and Scotty Bartow; a sister Betty Long of Hartford; three sisters-in-law, Betty Stearns of Alton, Martha (David) Chiolero of Godfrey, and Shirley Stearns of Bethalto.He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Briggs; and two brothers-in-law, Morris Briggs and Robert Stearns.Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Grant officiating.Burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association and Hope Animal Rescue of Godfrey, ILElias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home of Alton is charge of arrangements.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
