Charles Edward Davis, 83, died at 6:10 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence after a long & valiant battle with cancer.He was born in Jerseyville on March 22, 1927, one of three children born to the late Louis Lee and Martha C. (Matthews) Davis.Charlie was a lifetime grain farmer in rural Kane, and was 62 years member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge in Kane. He was also proud of his association with the Masonic lodge in Taegu, South Korea, and was a member of the Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis, Scottish Rite of Southern Illinois, Royal Arch Chapter and the York Rite Masons,Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 492, and a longtime member of the Peace United Church of Christ all in Jerseyville.He marriedThelma Briggs at the former Evangelical Church in Jerseyville on Dec. 30, 1950, and together they have shared the past 59 years together, and shared the joys of raising their four children.Surviving are his wife; four children & their spouses, Paula Davis of Godfrey, Charles & Debra Davis Jr. of Kane, Cynthia & Larry Monckton of Alton, and Rick Davis of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren & their spouses, Joshua & Callie Davis of Kane, Jessica & Kyle Rimbey of Kane, Matthew & Jodi Lynn of Alton, Kathryn Lynn of Jerseyville, Charles Davis of Chicago, Katherine Davis and Mary Claire Davis both of Jerseyville; two great grandchildren, Blake Rimbey & Madilynn Davis; and two sisters, Lois Davis & Ruth Davis both of Jerseyville.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where Masonic services will conclude the evening at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Revs. James Schroeder & William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to Shriners Hospital in St. Louis.
