Charles Hunter

Charles E. Hunter, 93 of Brighton, died at 5:50 A.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton, Illinois.

He was born to the late Charles Chester & Eva A. (Johnson) Hunter on January 24, 1924 in Calhoun County in Hillcrest, Illinois.

Charles married the late Doris Marie (Ford) Hunter on June 25, 1948 in Jersey County, Illinois.  Doris died on June 9, 2017.

Although most of his life he was an avid farmer.  In addition to farming, he worked for Sherbert's Ice Cream, Shipman Elevator and JCC Development.  Charles was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.  As well as a lifetime member of the Alton V.F.W. Post #1308 and a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge.

Survivors included 4 daughters ; Cathy Spears & Dave Keyser of Godfrey, Kelly (John) Shortal of Alton, Carla (Dave) Finkes of Dow, Laurie (John) Haselhorst of Brighton, 6 sons; David (Debra) Hunter of Jerseyville, Howard (Anna) Hunter of Ashland, Oregon, Steve (Denise) Hunter of Jerseyville, John (Ann) Hunter of Shipman, Duane (Dasda) Hunter of Jerseyville, Craig (Beth) Hunter of Pocahontas, 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Mary R. Warner of Jerseyville, Nola Kramer of Jerseyville

Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Violet Hunter, Mildred Ingersoll, Ilene Nimerick, 1 brother; Truman Hunter

Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton.
