CARROLLTON - Charles Raymond Conrad, 69, died at 3:50 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his residence.
He was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on February 16, 1954, and was a 1972 graduate of Jersey Community High School. For over 30 years he dedicated himself to the Laclede Steel Company in Alton, retiring as a steel fabricator. Always having the need to stay busy, he began working in housekeeping for the Alton Belle Casino.
He married the former Pamela Ann Napoli on November 15, 1986, in Fieldon, and together they were blessed with 30 years of marriage before her death on February 16, 2017.
With the exception of a period of time when they resided in Roodhouse, Charles and Pamela spent the majority of their married life in the East Alton area, where they lovingly raised their family.
Surviving are two children and their spouses, Matthew and Tiffany Hamby of Carrollton and Trinity and Jeremy Kelley of Wood River; six grandchildren, Angel, David, Anika, Landon, Emily and Katelyn; and two sisters and a brother in-law, Linda Devening of Jerseyville and Nancy and Gene Stone of Jerseyville.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Betty (Taylor) Conrad; and a brother in-law, Gary Devening.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday at Kane Cemetery. His son, Matthew Hamby will conduct the services.
Memorials may be given to the Conrad family in care of the funeral home.
