Charles Coffman

Charles “Chuck” Coffman, born March 23, 1949, was a lifelong resident of the Edwardsville area and died, age 77, on September 9, 2026, after dementia created a long goodbye.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Faye (Highlander) Coffman. Sweethearts since their youth, their bond spanned a lifetime, culminating in 56 years of marriage. Chuck’s legacy continues through his daughters, Amy (David) Phillips, of Naperville, and Sarah (Daniel) McEvilly, of St. Louis; and his cherished grandchildren, Ellen, Jacob, and Ambrish. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Ayers, of Carterville; and a wide circle of dear friends who were like family in his heart. He is reunited in death with his parents Esther “Leck” (Sido) Coffman and Donald Coffman, of Edwardsville.

Chuck was unique and unforgettable: funny, curious, justice-minded, kind, and always searching for meaning. He loved big questions, spirited conversations, politics, baseball, and his St. Louis Cardinals. Drawn to religion, philosophy, and spirituality, he was endlessly fascinated by the mysteries of being human. Above all, he was a devoted son, husband, father, and a loyal friend.

For most of his work life, Chuck worked for the family business as Vice President of Ready Mix Service.

His legacy lives on through his humor, his curiosity, and his strong devotion to those he loved. One of his favorite sayings captured him well: “If you have a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind. But if you have a choice between being kind and being funny, choose funny.” He was not ordinary, and those who loved him would not have wanted him to be.

A memorial celebration will be held for family and friends on September 20th.  Donations in his honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Illinois Chapter (www.alz.org/illinois), which seeks to eradicate all forms of the terrible disease called dementia.  Condolences may be shared online at weberfuneralhome.com.
