Charlene Amanda Halemeyer, 90, of Bethalto, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:15 pm, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
She was born in Chicago, IL, on October 20, 1933, the daughter of Charles and Amanda (Wackerow) Nelson. Charlene married Gale Halemeyer in Wood River in 1958. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband on December 15, 1993.
Charlene graduated from SIUE with a bachelor's degree in education. She then taught 3rd grade in East Alton until her retirement. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto since 1990 and was involved with Sunday morning Bible Study. Charlene loved to travel taking many trips and tours. She was also very involved with the Senior Citizen's group in Bethalto, Teacher's Organization, LIFT, the Red Hat Society and she was a huge Cubs fan.
She will be deeply missed by dear friends, Merri (Steven) Stabenow of East Alton, and Jackye (Kerry) Wilson of Bethalto; and family of Ralph and Erna Halemeyer.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, Pastor Kale Hanson and Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate. Graveside service will follow at 2 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery in Brussels.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran School of Bethalto.
