Charlene Georgette Nickens, 74, passed away 12:52 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at SSM DePaul Health Center in St. Louis.
Born on December 23, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Charles and Lorraine (Vogt) Cobb.
On December 23, 1961 in Alton, she married Harry Richard Nickens, whom she had met while volunteering at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He died December 17, 2014.
Charlene was a dedicated and loving mother, putting her family and grandchildren first and foremost. As her children grew, she began to work as a CNA at Blu-Fountain Manor then later at St. Clare Hospital before retiring in 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Nickens of Boone, IA, Brian (Brittany) Nickens of Goodyear, AZ; two daughters, Terri Frye of Elk City, OK, Joanie (Joseph) Hall of Dorsey; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Cobb of Cape Girardeau, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a son-in-law, Johnny Frye.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 pm, Friday, June 1 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, with a visitation following the service until 6 pm.
