Chance Nesbit

Chancey Dean Nesbit, 53 of Alton, passed away unexpectedly at 3:46 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at his residence.

Chance (as he was called) was born on February 14, 1972 in Killeen, TX.  He was the son of the late Willliam “Bill” Samuel Nesbit and Pamel S. (Womack) Nesbit of Alton.

He worked as a welder along with his dad and brother-in-law for some time and then enjoyed cooking at a Bar and Grill before becoming disabled.  Chance was a man of many talents.

Survivors include one daughter, Dena Louise Nesbit of East Alton; one son, Tyler G McMillen of East Alton; seven grandchildren, Miles, Nora, Odin, Pasida, and Quill Elkins all of East Alton, Raistlyn and Mina McMillen both of Bethalto; one sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Shawn Davis of Roxana; one niece Breanna Davis; two nephews, Alex Davis, Josh Davis; one aunt, Linda Kopsie of East Alton; one uncle, Bob Nesbit of Cottage Hills.

A celebration of Chance’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. service time on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.  Rev. James R. Hooker will officiate.

Besides his dad, Chance was preceded in death by his grandparents and uncle Richard Kopsie.

A celebration of Chance’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. service time on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.  Rev. James R. Hooker will officiate.

Chance passed away 1 year and 3 days after his dad Bill.  They had lived together for many years and always enjoyed going hunting together and fishing as long as their health would allow them to. 

Chance will be sadly missed by his loved ones and friends.

Memorials have been requested to the family in care of Tammy Davis.
