Cecil Stacy

Cecil Stacy, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Stillwater Senior Living Center in Edwardsville, Ill., after battling cancer for several months.

He was born March 21, 1935, near Hallidayboro, Ill., to Walter Edwin Stacy and Carrie (Holliday) Stacy. He married Alma Louise Cuppett on July 20, 1957, at First Church of the Nazarene in Granite City, Ill. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2019.

Cecil is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kathleen A. (Steven) Hoover of Edwardsville, Lori A. (Kenneth) Moats of Edwardsville, and David A. (Angel) Stacy of Granite City. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Shaun K. Moats of Edwardsville, Kenna A. (Corey) West of Worden, Marissa A. (Alex) Foley of Granite City, and Dylan T. Stacy of Granite City; two step-grandchildren, Alan (Jordyn) Foley of Phlugerville, Tex., and Alex (Marissa) Foley of Granite City; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Trevor West of Worden; and one step-great-grandchild, Jaden Foley of Phlugerville, Tex.

He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Ferguson of Ely, Nev., and Sandra Foster of Elkville, Ill., as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma L. (Cuppett) Stacy; his parents, Walter and Carrie Stacy; one brother, Kenneth Stacy; and five sisters, Roberta Stacy, Alberta Stacy, Lavetta (Benjamin) Grise, Ruby Ilene Stacy, and Lena Stacy.

Cecil was a laborer in the Cold Strip at Granite City Steel from 1955 until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and was very proud of his many hunting trophies. He was a member of Glenview Church of the Nazarene in Glen Carbon, Ill. He was also an avid Civil War buff and enjoyed reading about and traveling to historical sites.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL.

In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL, with Pastor Larry Blankley officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Johnson Road General Baptist Church, Granite City, IL, Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
