Cecil "Gerry" G. Giles, a treasured member of the Alton, IL community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 16, 1952, in Rosewood Heights, IL, Cecil dedicated his life to both his family and his vocation as a Nurse Anesthetist at Alton Memorial Hospital, where he served diligently, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Corby Lee (McAfoos) Giles, with whom he shared a beautiful journey through life. Together, they raised three wonderful children: daughters Brook, married to Brian Hausman, and Lindsey, married to John Duggan, along with their son, Nathan Giles. Cecil's legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, Paislee, Corbin, Bayley, and Cami, who brought immense joy and pride to his days.
Cecil also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl, and her husband Vernon LeClaire, who will remember him fondly for his warmth, kindness, and the deep love he held for his family.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Cecil Jack Giles and Mary Jane Giles, Cecil embodied the values they instilled in him, leaving a legacy of compassion and dedication in his personal and professional life.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation to celebrate Cecil’s life on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Gent Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Alton, IL, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alton Memorial Hospital Foundation, honoring Cecil’s commitment to healthcare and the community he served.
Cecil will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
