Cecil E. Bourland, a beloved member of the Jerseyville community, passed away on April 11, 2024, surrounded by his family at home.
He was born on October 29, 1927, in Galatia, IL. Cecil was the son of Wilburn and Laura (Ambrose) Bourland.
Cecil's life was marked by his dedicated service to his country in the US Navy and his passions for reading, western movies, murder mysteries, computer games, watching Nascar, and baking. His interests were varied and brought him joy throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, L. Estelle (Shinn) Bourland, six children: Cecilia & Ian Wigley of California, Robert Bourland of California, Barbara Hammond of Jerseyville, Debra & Rusty Akers of Jerseyville, Shelby Hammond of Jerseyville, and Toby Hammond of Winchester. Additionally, Cecil leaves behind one granddaughter, Heather Molesworth of California, as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Jean & Louie Reed of Ohio, special nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Cecil was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilburn Bourland and Everett Bourland.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home and Crematory.
Private graveside rites will be held at Pine Tree Cemetery in Patterson, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethel Baptist Church.
