Catherine L. McCarthy, 83, passed away 8:35 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center of Edwardsville.
Born in Wood River on November 24, 1932, she was the daughter of Samuel and Cora (Schaaf) Cunningham.
She had been employed as an administrative assistant for the Olin Corporation for 41 years before retiring in 1992.
On October 4, 1973 in Bethalto, she married Timothy A. McCarthy. He died April 4, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick McCarthy, Brian (Sarah) McCarthy all of St. Louis; two daughters, Kathy (Don) Sawyer of Westfield, IN, Paula Johnson of San Jose, CA; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Casey) Sawyer, David (Julie) Sawyer, Margaret McCarthy, Elizabeth McCarthy, Sarah Jane McCarthy, Claire McCarthy; brother, Samuel (Virginia) Cunningham of Martinez, GA; and a sister, Bonnie (Bob) Raley of Amarillo, TX.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
