JERSEYVILLE-  Catherine June Gilbert, 79, formerly of the Shipman area, died at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville.She was born in Jacksonville on June 5, 1933 one of two children born to the late George F. & Pearl (Henkel) Cunningham.Catherine was raised in Carrollton, and graduated in 1951 from Carrollton High School.  She soon began working for the telephone company there until she married.She married Delles C. Gilbert on Oct. 30, 1953 in Carrollton, and together they have shared the joys of two children and nearly 60 years of marriage.During their married life, Catherine was a homemaker and took care of their home and family in rural Shipman where they resided for 47 years before relocating to Jerseyville in 2006.Later in life, she began working as a bus driver for the Southwestern School District, and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, and the Calvary Baptist Church in Woodburn, where she was a longtime member, and was heavily involved in their children's ministries.Surviving are her husband, Delles Gilbert of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Delles E. & Carol Gilbert of Nilwood; a daughter & son in law, Brenda & Richard Anderson of Kane; three grandchildren & their spouses, Kelley & Jeremy Zumwalt of Chatham, Roman Gilbert of Los Angeles, Ca., and Jonathon Anderson, a student at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a great granddaughter, Katie Gilbert; and a brother & sister in law, Frances E. "Gene' & Yvonne Cunningham of Carrollton.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Delhi Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Fields officiating.Burial will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Delhi Baptist Church where she was currently a member.
