Carol Sue McPherson, 82, of Alton, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital, with family by her side.
She was born February 17, 1944, in Alton, IL, to the late Leo H. and Eleanor M. (Waggoner) Theisen.
After retiring from Big Lots in Alton, Illinois, she continued working by caring for others. She became a Senior Companion through PSOP, where she was able to offer her time, kindness, and companionship to those in her community. She was also a proud member of the Women’s League at The Salvation Army.
Creativity was an important part of her life. She loved crafting in all its forms, including crocheting, sewing, diamond art, and anything else that allowed her to express her creative side. One of the most special ways she shared that creativity was by crocheting baby blankets for many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren using a cherished family pattern, creating keepsakes that will continue to be treasured for generations.
Above all, she loved her family dearly. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a tremendous source of joy and pride, and she was proud of every one of them. The love she poured into her family, the things she made with her own hands, and the memories she created with those she loved will remain an enduring part of her legacy.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister and husband, Jana and George Howell.
Her three children survive her: Eleanor “Ellie” (Mike) Feldmann of Bunker Hill, IL, Shari Ann (Chuck) Youchoff of Glen Carbon, IL, and Dj of Alton, IL; six grandchildren: Paige, Morgan, Hannah, Megan, Amber, and Emma; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be from 9 am until the memorial service at 10:30 am at Gent Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Alton, IL.
Memorial donations in Carol’s name may be given to the Salvation Army.
