Carol McMurran

Carol Ann McMurran, age 79 of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, peacefully at the De Greff Hospice Home.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, St. Louis, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home, 203 West Oak, Greenville, Illinois. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until time of service on Monday in Greenville.

In lieu of flowers and plants, please make memorial gifts to the Greenville Public Library, in honor of Carol’s love of reading. Memorials may be given at the services or mailed to Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home, 203 West Oak, Greenville, IL 62246.

Carol Ann was born February 5, 1947, in Highland, Illinois. She was the daughter of Eugene Hall and Gladys Nell Donnell McMurran. Carol grew up in Greenville, attended the public schools and graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1965. She worked at her parents’ store, Greenville News Stand later named Greenville Printing and Supply, on the Greenville Square. Carol attended Greenville College and then moved to St. Louis, Missouri.

Carol worked for Famous-Barr and was the purchasing manager of their book department for many years. She continued her career with Famous-Barr after they closed the book division in sales. Carol then worked for Library Limited and started being an independent sales representative for Pray Associates. She enjoyed traveling the St. Louis and metro-east region visiting many mom-and-pop business and making life-long acquaintances over the 20+ years.

A passionate reader and love for books, Carol was a member of two different book clubs. She was a long-time member of the St. Louis Public Libraries and enjoyed going to book shows with friends in Texas. Carol took many trips with her friends in retirement and cherished her trips each year with the Corn Girls. She and George enjoyed traveling together and just enjoyed their trip to Alaska this year.

Carol was surrounded by dear friends who were like family. She was a wonderful “fur mom” to many cats over the years, and Phoebe who never left her side. Carol is survived by her special friend of 50 plus years George Lee, her God-daughter Kelli (Christopher) Unnerstall of St. Louis, cousins William E. Donnell of Greenville, and H. Denny Donnell, Jr. of Columbia, Missouri. Carol was a big part of the lives of Heather, John and Paul Donnell and Benjamin and Alexander Unnerstall; always present for holidays, birthdays, graduations, and loved each of them as a “second mother” would. She also leaves behind a host of second cousins on the Donnell and McMurran side.
