Carol Gendron

Carol Joyce Gendron, age 91, of Granite City, IL., passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at La Bella of Edwardsville, IL. Carol was born on November 8, 1932, in Harrisburg, IL, a daughter of the late Charles McClendon and Beulah (Caldwell) McClendon.

On December 25, 1955, Carol McClendon married Paul E. Gendron, and he preceded in her death on April 5, 2019. Carol was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Granite City, IL. She retired as a schoolteacher in 1987 after twenty-four years of dedicated service with Granite City School District #9. Carol enjoyed cross stitching, reading, and playing cards with her family and friends. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Carol will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert McClendon and Thomas McClendon; and by a son-in-law, Dave Prengel.

Carol is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa (Mike) Kelly) of Orange Park, FL, Lori (Tom) Messina of Maryville, IL, Paula (Dave) Kwiatkowski of Granite City, IL and Penny Prengel of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to Ian Kelly, Alison (Caleb) Hancock, Natalie Messina, Leslie (Dave) Anderson, Alex (Ashlee) Kwiatkowski, Kimberly (Sam) Shaucier, Scott (Liz) Prengel and Daniel Prengel; proud great-grandmother to Claire Kwiatkowski, Ted Kwiatkowski, Theodora Prengel, Thomasin Prengel, Tobias Prengel, Forrest Hancock and Boyd Hancock; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Darla Ann Cratzer officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Parkinson’s Foundation. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
