Carlos L. Griffin, age 86, went to be with the Lord at 11:00 pm on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Mounds City, IL on December 16, 1929, the son of the late Oscar Lee & Elizabeth “Betty” (Slaughter) Griffin.
He married Florence A. (Miller) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton on September 27, 1952. She survives
Carlos was a graduate of Marquette High School class of 1947. He worked at McDonnell Douglas for 30 years as a Specialist Machinist retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the Church Choir. He enjoyed music and singing, taking singing lessons as a child and proud to have sung on two records. Carlos was a soccer and baseball coach in the Alton area and loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diana Webb of Alton and Monica & Robert Boyd of Alton; one son, Daniel Griffin of Cottage Hills; nine grandchildren, Randi Smith, Kaycee Webb, Mason Webb, Stephanie Copley, Benjamin Copley, Zachary Copley, Devin Griffin-Sanders, Ezra Boyd and Kevin Boyd; five great grandchildren and one sister and two brother-in-laws, Edna & Louis Sommars of Godfrey and Melvin Thornhill of Gillespie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Pamela Jean Griffin who passed away 48 years ago and a sister, Betty Rose Thornhill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and for Marquette High School.
