Edwardsville | Save

Sauermann, Candace Annette (James), 59, of Edwardsville, Illinois, born, June 2, 1958, in Staten Island, New York, passed away peacefully in the presence of family and friends after an extended battle with illness Monday, January 1, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Daughter of the late Charles A. and Jeannette (Guionnaux) James of Wood River; beloved wife of Frank Sauermann of Edwardsville; dearest mother of James Kelley Sauermann; loving sister of Dianne (James) Lipe of Edwardsville and Linda (James) Hanselman of Edwardsville and half-sister of Rolande Cantrell of Fayetteville, North Carolina; cherished sister-in-law of Larry Lipe and Jeff Hanselman of Edwardsville, and Bernd and Amanda Sauermann of Hopkinsville, KY, and half-sister-in-law of Bill Cantrell of Fayetteville; precious daughter-in-law of Ken and Christa Kelley of Maryville, IL; sweet and life-long friend of Janet (Sullivan) and Mike Timmermeier of Alton and Stephanie Straub of East Alton.

Candace was a graduate of Roxana High School in 1976 and SIUE School of Engineering in 1980. Highly respected in her profession, she proudly served as a civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 34 years until her retirement. Following this career, she enjoyed working for Wish Upon a Star With Us travel agency in Collinsville helping families plan memorable vacations.

Sweet, engaging and family-centered, Candace’s warm smile and loving heart made strangers into friends and friends into family. She loved teaching Sunday School and welcoming new families to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, travelling with her family enjoying the same trips she helped plan for others, and being at home hosting a family dinner (a glorious Easter dinner was her specialty!); however, her glow burned brightest beside her loving and faithful husband Frank and her dear son James, whose kindness made her especially proud.

Services: Requiem Mass at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the Mass at the church 10:00-11:00.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Edwardsville, IL 62025.
