Caliph Dickerson

Caliph Dickerson made his debut into our world on August 7, 1945, in Starkville, Mississippi. He was the firstborn son of Mrs. Silver Lee (May) Dickerson and Mr. Ben Lash. Caliph grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois.

In September of 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a military police officer, and was honorably discharged in late 1966. Afterward, Caliph moved to Gary, Indiana, and began a career in masonry. In 1971, Caliph welcomed the arrival of his daughter, Kaylynn. Caliph was a lifelong fisherman and had a surprisingly green thumb.

In 2007, he retired as a skilled masonry and returned to Edwardsville, to spend more time with family and friends. He also loved his fishing trips with ‘Da Fishing Crew’ and his toys— boats, bikes, and cars! He spent his last 1000 sunrises in Texas, surrounded by the presence and love of his dutiful daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Caliph departed our world on February 9, 2022.

Caliph is preceded in death by his father; Ben Lash, mother; Silver Lee (May) Dickerson, sister; Dottie (Dickerson) Harris; and sister-in-law; Jacquelyn Dickerson; nephew; Kyle Dickerson; and great-niece; Devin Cowans.

Caliph is survived by his daughter; Kaylynn Dickerson, ex-wife; Francis Dickerson, brothers; Thomas and Rickey Dickerson, sisters; Mary Shaw and Cat (Thomas) Mitchell, brothers; Dennis, Michael, Mark Lash; and sister Brenda Lash Pearson; grandchildren; Jonathan (Tina) Frank Gailes Sr, Kayla Amanda Sheri Gailes, and Keith (Kaila) Donnell Gailes II, and great-grandchildren; Chibuzo Zylen Amobi, Jaiden Lyniah Annaleese, Mi’Kailah Raelynn Walker, Jonathan Frank Gailes Jr, Jalen Marquise Wilson, Liberty Elizabeth Francis Gailes, Kelah Gailes, and Marcell Brown; and a bounty of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
