Bruce Wayne Mourning, 75, died Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on September 12, 1950, in Alton, Illinois, a son of the late Charles Delbert and Evelyn Marie (Tucker) Mourning.
Bruce began what would become a long and proud career in 1984 with IATSE Local 6 Stagehands. In 1993 he became a loyal card holding member. Two of his proudest moments were watching both his sons follow his path and become members of the union as well. For over 40 years he helped build his union by cultivating new members as well as being a wealth of knowledge to all around him. Bruce genuinely enjoyed his work and held a great deal of respect and affection for the people he worked alongside throughout the years. The friendships and camaraderie he found through the union meant a great deal to him.
He married Sandra Sue Kagy on November 3, 2009, in Alton, and together they shared nearly 17 years of marriage.
Away from work, Bruce enjoyed the simple things that brought him together with the people he loved. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his brothers and was a devoted sports fan, faithfully cheering on Fighting Illini basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Above all else, Bruce loved his family. He was proud of his children and found particular joy in being a grandfather. His grandchildren held an especially treasured place in his heart, and the time spent with them was among the greatest joys of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Kagy; four children, Nathan (Judith) Mourning, Jessica Mourning, Lindsey (Jared) Gernigin and Matthew (Krista) Mourning; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Chase, Madelyn, Kasen, Priscilla, Cordelia and Vivianne; two brothers, David (Valerie) Mourning and Scott (Janice) Mourning; and a sister, Terri (Danny) Phelps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Melody Muntz; and a brother, Jay Mourning.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 9 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
