Bruce Egelhoff

Bruce Charles Egelhoff, 71, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones after a long struggle with Interstitial Fibrosis.

Bruce was born on January 2nd, 1955 in Jerseyville, Illinois the son of Clarence and Virginia Egelhoff (Feyerabend).

Bruce found great joy in spending time with friends, especially over dinners at Midtown and Don and Penny’s, and treasured the monthly gatherings with the Jerseyville High School Class of 1973.

He and John shared a love of travel and adventure, visiting many remarkable places together. They enjoyed frequent train trips to Chicago and made lasting memories sailing on the Queen Mary 2 on four separate occasions.

A devoted fan, Bruce enjoyed attending Cardinals and River Dragons games, but his greatest pride and joy came from cheering on his grandchildren in all their activities. He delighted in both spoiling and challenging his grandchildren, always striving to inspire in them a love of learning and creativity.

Bruce was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of the North Alton-Godfrey Business Council, the Alton-Godfrey Rotary, and was a candidate for the Madison County Board in 2023.

He dedicated over 50 years as a salesman at Brockman’s in Jerseyville, where he formed countless meaningful connections and lasting friendships.

Bruce was also the co-founder of J.E.M. Properties. Over the past 30 years, he and his partners renovated 34 residences in the city of Alton, contributing to the improvement and revitalization of local neighborhoods.

Bruce is survived by his beloved partner of 34 years, John Meehan; his sons, Jason Egelhoff and Brandon (Niki) Egelhoff; and his cherished grandchildren, Stella and Griffin. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Linda) Egelhoff, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Clarence Egelhoff.

Bruce will be remembered for his warmth, his dedication to others, and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, and community.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 1:00 pm until prayer service at 4:30 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL. Fr. Janoski will officiate.
