Brian Thomas McAfee, 41, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at his home after courageously enduring a nearly two-year fight against cancer.
He was born on July 18, 1985, in Alton, the son of Tommy and Janice (Sanders) McAfee.
Brian married the love of his life, Christina Crane at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grafton.
Together they built a home, a beautiful life, and welcomed their greatest blessings, Ben, Audrey, and John. Brian was a devoted father. He spent countless hours outside with the children, camping, tractor-pulling, working on projects in the shed, teaching Ben and John how to be a good farmer, and helping Audrey with woodworking. Brian was committed to his family and worked tirelessly to instill his love and knowledge into his children.
Brian graduated from Southwestern High School in 2003 and went on to earn an Associates degree in Mechanics from Ranken Technical College. He worked as an Operator at Phillips 66 Refinery in Wood River, IL for 18 years. Brian grew up farming alongside his family, and continued to farm while also working full time at the refinery. In the spring of 2025, he was elected to serve as a Trustee on Ruyle Township.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Christina; three children Benjamin, Audriana, and Johnathan McAfee; parents, Tommy and Janice McAfee; sister Elizabeth (Brandon) Rea; paternal grandparents, Oswald and Leona McAfee; father and mother in law, Scott and Carolyn Crane; sister in law Amanda (Andrew) Wegrzyn; nieces and nephews Chase and Olivia Rea and Clare and Kolbe Wegrzyn; numerous cousins and life long friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Elaine Sanders.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist’s Catholic Church in Medora.
Burial will follow at Medora Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Jersey County Garden Tractor Pullers Association, Medora Cemetery Association, or Jersey County Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation.
