Bill F. Basden, 92, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 29, 1926 in Murphysboro, IL, he was a son of Edgar & Wilma (Wilcox) Basden.
On Mar. 14, 1975, he and Gloria V. Sievers were married in Rosewood Heights, IL. She survives in Wood River.
Bill was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater and retired from the City of Wood River after many years of service. He also served as V.P. on the Board of Directors for Shell Credit Union for 29 years.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by 4 daughters: Karen (David) Wilkerson of Shipman, IL, Sherrie (Terry) Hall of Godfrey, IL, Alanna (Jerry McCarthy) Collier of Hazelcrest, IL and Diane Davis of Wood River; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Herbie Basden of Hartford, IL; and 1 sister: Caroll Reed of Brighton, IL.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon David Wilkerson; 5 brothers, Abe, David, Clarence, Robert and Ed Basden; and 4 sisters: Mary Katherine Russell, Helen Hall, Eula Clarice, and Barbara Shaw.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thurs. 1/3/19 at Paynic Home for Funerals with Pastor Doug Pascoe officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he and his wife were members for 43 years.
