Beverly Myers

Jerseyville |

Beverly June Myers, 61,  died at 4:30 a.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Jerseyville on January 28, 1957, and was the daughter of Leonard "Sonny" and Joann (Weller) Shain.

She attended Jerseyville schools, and graduated from Lewis & Clark Community College earning Licensed Practical Nurse certificate. She used her skills for a number of years comforting residents at several area facilities, namely Beverly Farms in Godfrey and Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville.

She married Ralph Myers on March 20, 1985 in Brighton and  although they were only blessed with nearly 4 years together, it could easily be said that her time with Ralph was some of her happiest moments here on Earth.  He was tragically killed on Jan. 31, 1989.

She loved spending time with nature, whether it was along the river, fishing, hiking, camping, mushrooming or spending time with animals. She also loved caring for others, whether it was her children or grandchildren, or the elderly that she encountered in her chosen profession.

Beverly was a free spirit with a hippie soul, who loved old time rock n'roll, classic rock, as well as the blues and lived her life on her own terms, at all times.  Her spirit did not waiver in the face of her illness, and she handled her disease and her departure from this earth just as she lived her life....on her terms.

Surviving are a son, John Abbott of Kane; a daughter, Carrie Abbott Breden of Kane; three grandchildren, Carlie Widman, Schon Widman and Bronson Abbott; two great grandchildren, Caiden and Giavanna with a new great-grandson, Leo due to arrive in three weeks; two sisters, Karen Gillespie of Port Isabel, Texas and Jane Shain of Jerseyville; and two brothers, Jesse Shain and Greg Shain both of Jerseyville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard "Sonny" Shain.

In keeping with her wishes, Beverly has been cremated.

Family and friends are invited to join in a gathering at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville from 5 p.m. Monday until time of memorial services at  7 p.m.

If you so desire, memorials may be given to her family to assist in placing a permanent marker at her gravesite.
