Beverly Whitaker

Beverly J. Whitaker, 77, of Wood River formerly of Granite City passed away December 19, 2016 at her home.  She was born February 4, 1939 in Granite City, IL to Walter C. and Rose M. (nee: Norden) Whitaker.  Beverly worked as a court reporter in Madison County, a probation officer and as a secretary for the United Steel Workers of America until her retirement in 1989.  She attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Granite City and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  She served as a precinct Committeeman in Granite City and Alton.She is survived by a very special person, friend and companion in life, Le Madge “Cricket” (nee: Finley) Whitaker; children, Chris Schutzenhofer (Shiela Revelle), Carla (Richard) Gillespie, Carie (Jim) Evans, Candi (Jim) Parker and Cathi (Tim) Strazinsky; grandchildren, Ryan (Sari) Schutzenhofer, Katie (Chris) Spaulding, Nick Cline, Mary Gillespie, Ricky Gillespie, Darin Clements, Jr, Brendan Clements, Alex Evans, Hunter Parker, Drake Parker, Reid Parker, Logan Tarasovich, Taylor, Madison and Mitchell Strazinsky; great grandchildren, Chloe Schutzenhofer, Aaron Spaulding and Owen (Cline) Gillis and brother, Walter L. (Judy) Whitaker.She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, LeRoy W. Whitaker and a grandson, Aaron Schutzenhofer.Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at funeral home.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial
