Betty Steele

Betty Jean Steele, 90, of Glen Carbon and formerly of Edwardsville and Madison passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.

She was born November 25, 1932, in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Fabino) Jackovich. She married Howard Steele on April 27, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison and he passed away on January 4, 1988. Betty and her husband owned and operated R&M Construction and K&L Construction where she served many years as the bookkeeper until their retirement. She enjoyed planting flowers, gardening and her days of traveling. She cherished her family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Daryl Terry of Edwardsville; two grandchildren, Kenneth Ligibel of Edwardsville and Kelly Reeve of Edwardsville; a great grandchild, Grayson Reeve; brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Arlene Jackovich of St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Christine “Chris” Miller of Glen Carbon; several nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Gentry and a great grandson-in-law, David Justin Reeve.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Father Steve Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com.
