Betty Kombrink

Betty Kombrink, age 94 of Pocahontas, IL, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at Cedarhurst in Highland, IL.

She was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1930, in Millersburg, IL, the daughter of William and Sylvia (nee Jakel) Haberer, Sr.

On Thursday, November 18, 1948, she married August Benjamin Kombrink at Grantfork, who passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.

She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of EvUCC - Women's Guild and V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5694 of Highland.

Betty grew up in Millersburg and lived there until 2023 (over 90 years). She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1948. Before she married August, Betty worked at Basler Electric and Moulton-Bartles Shoe Factory. She retired from Marine Garmet in Highland, IL. Betty enjoyed baking and decorating wedding cakes, traveling (Europe), and donating her time to church.

She was preceded in death by:

  • Father - William Haberer, Sr. (died 1948)
  • Mother - Sylvia (nee Jakel) Haberer (died 1986)
  • Spouse - August Benjamin Kombrink
  • Son - David Kombrink
  • Brother - William Haberer, Jr.
  • Brother - Calvin C. Haberer
  • Sister - Patricia A. Liening-Brown

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with Rev. William E. Kapp, Pastor officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital.
