Betty J. Mickey, 91, of Jerseyville passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Betty was an only child born in Little Rock, AK on January 1, 1924 to Bernie J. and Jessie June (Wilkinson) Roath. The family later moved to Seaside California. She worked at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA where she met Carl C. Mickey while he served in the Army. She attended the Jerseyville First Assembly of God Church.
Betty married Carl Mickey on February 9, 1946 and was the mother of three daughters, Kay Reese of Lakeside, AZ (deceased), Linda and Rev. Larry Hayes of Jerseyville, Il and Carla and Danny Bawdon of Hollister, CA. She had 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Betty and Carl moved from CA in 2005 to live with their daughter Linda and son-in-law, Larry Hayes.
Visitation will be at the Jerseyville First Assembly of God Church, Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a Celebration of her life Memorial Service following at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Larry Hayes and Rev. Carl Hayes officiating. Her final service and resting place will be at Wolf Run Baptist Church and Cemetery in Cameron WV.
Betty was a homemaker and a volunteer for many organizations. She was very active in church; she served for many years as the church organist and choir director. She also worked with children; there wasn’t a child she didn’t love. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Mickey, and one daughter, Kaye Reese. Memorials may be given to the First Assembly of God Church, Jerseyville, Il. Arrangements are entrusted to Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home of Jerseyville.
