Betty Cox

Betty J. Cox, 85, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 12:10am on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Barnes – Jewish Hospital with her loving family and friends by her side.  She was born on June 15, 1931, in Wood River, the daughter of the late Elisah and Dena (Dixon) Odle.  She married James R. “Jim” Cox on March 20, 1953, in Roxana and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2014.  Survivors include her children and their families: Jimmy and Eileen “Cookie” Cox of Wood River, and their children: Joshua Cox,  Anna Tucker and her husband: Mike,  David and Shirley Cox of Roxana, and their children:  Phillip Cox and his wife: Ashley, Christina Cox, Timothy Cox and his wife: Haley, Dena and Robert “Bob” Anderson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and their children: Elizabeth Wright and her husband: Charles, James Anderson, eight great grandchildren: Logan, Michael “J.J.”, Scarlett, Brady, Parker, Titus, Savannah, Theo, and one sister: Mary Harshbarger of Alton. 

A homemaker, she was formerly employed at the Roxana Drug Store for five years and Movies Plus in Alton for three years.  She was a lifelong member of the Roxana Church of the Nazarene.   

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Birdie Mae Cramner and Martha Nell Crouch. 

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, May 15, 2017,  at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River and will continue from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the Roxana Church of the Nazarene.  Pastor Doug Krassow will officiate.  Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. 

Memorials are suggested to the Mission Fund at Roxana Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at the funeral home.
