Betty Lou Harszy, a resident of Cottage Hills and Bethalto, Illinois, met her Lord and Savior on February 27, at home with her loved ones by her side, at the age of 86.
Betty was the daughter of John and Ruby White and was born on July 19th, 1937.
In 1955, she married Lewis Harszy, who passed in 2002.
Betty saw the value in hard work and worked at Bowl Inn in East Alton, Airport Bowl in Bethalto, and for many years, at Dillard's in Fairview Heights.
Betty enjoyed bowling and was a member and secretary of the Friday Senior Bowling League at bowl Haven in Alton for many years. She also loved bingo and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered for being a relentless champion of the Leukemia Guild.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in passing by her daughter, Diana Kay Harszy, who passed away at age 5 from Leukemia and by her husband, Lewis.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Joe Harszy Sr. (Marsha) and Jim Harszy (friend Debbie) of Bethalto; her adored grandchildren, Joe Harszy ll (Diana), Amy Harszy, Jonathan Harszy, and Alex Harszy; her cherished great-grandchildren, Abigail Brown (Dylan), Tony Reed (Casey), Emily Mock (Christopher), and Greg Reed (Lauren), Layla Harszy, Jonathon Harszy Jr , Addisynn Harszy and beloved great-great grandchildren, Grayson Reed, Natalie Reed, and Otto Brown.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was loved dearly and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be Monday, March 4 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 11 a.m. until services begin at 2 p.m. Private family committal will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty’s name to BJC Hospice.
