Betty D. Baldwin, 90, of Glen Carbon and formerly of Alton and Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Meridian Village Memory Care in Glen Carbon. A longtime resident of Galesburg, Illinois, she was born September 16, 1934, in Altona, Illinois, a daughter of the late Henry and Nola (McClure) Theesfeld. Betty married the love of her life, Merle E. Baldwin, on May 8, 1955, in Galva, Illinois; spending their time together until his passing on June 20, 2018. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Family was the center of her life. She enjoyed the many family gatherings over the years and all the great activities that came with; showing her love for games and teaching the grandkids how to compete.
Betty was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg where she served on the newsletter committee and played in the bell choir. She had a love of music and enjoyed playing the piano. She enjoyed playing the slot machines and taking trips to Las Vegas with family and her friends. Betty worked as secretary for Clark Drug Store in Galesburg and later the City of Galesburg where she retired from after many years of dedicated service. Over the last several years she spent her time playing cards, knitting, and enjoying a nice bowl of ice cream at the end of the day.
She is survived by two daughters, a son, and two sons-in-law, Teri and Phil Trapani of Alton and Tami and John Joyce of Montgomery, Texas; a son, Brad Baldwin of Canton, New York; eight grandchildren, Carli, Mathew, Bradi, Tana, Kala, Roya, Ryan and Carli; fourteen great grandchildren, Jaxon, Nola, Henry, Jack, Chloe, Noah, Eleanor, Avyllene, Teddy, Jake, Ella, Terin, Rosalia and Carter; one great-great grandson, Coy; a sister, Pat Anderson of Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Theesfeld of South Carolina; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Allan Dale Theesfeld, Dorothy Hilton, Lois Theesfeld, Bud Theesfeld, Jean Theesfeld, Virginia Wyman, Dale Theesfeld and Larry Theesfeld.
