Bennie Frank Glasgow, 89, of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at his home.
He was born April 2, 1937, in Bear Spring, Tennessee, a son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Sexton) Glasgow. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay (Myers) Glasgow, on April 17, 1993, in Branson, Missouri, and she survives.
Bennie retired in 1996 from Granite City Steel after more than 40 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a longtime, devoted member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City. He also enjoyed many years of fellowship and brotherhood as a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
A country boy at heart, Bennie never forgot his Tennessee roots or his love for the simple pleasures of life. He found great joy in raising mules, making homemade sorghum molasses and spending time outdoors surrounded by the beauty of nature. He appreciated the peacefulness of the countryside and carried his love for rural life with him throughout the years. Above all, Bennie loved the Lord and cherished his faith. He was a natural storyteller who enjoyed sharing memories, experiences and a good conversation with anyone willing to listen. His love for family, faith and the outdoors will remain a treasured part of his legacy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sharon, he is survived by two children, Shannon (Christiane) Glasgow of Ballwin, Missouri, and Susan (Rob) Nove of Seattle, Washington; two stepdaughters, DeAnn (Brad) Harris and Mona (Raleigh) Dickey, both of Granite City; four grandchildren, Rebecca Glasgow, Patrick Glasgow, Tanner Nove and Garrett Nove; a sister, Lorene Grippo of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Lewis (Lois) Glasgow of Glen Carbon and James (Vickie) Glasgow of Bear Spring, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; other extended family members and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Frankie Carol Glasgow.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
