Benjamin E. Moore, 95, of Rosewood Heights, IL passed away on February 18, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL.

He was born on February 22, 1921 near Elwin, IL, the son of Jesse “Clyde” and Polly (Austin) Moore. He graduated from Macon High School and served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed mainly at Pearl Harbor and the Philippines. Ben married Beulah Andricks on September 28, 1947 in Macon, IL and they celebrated 69 years of marriage last fall.

Ben was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights. He worked for the U.S. Army Troop Support Command in St. Louis, retiring in 1980. He loved nature, fishing, being outside working in the yard, feeding birds, or sitting down with a good reference book. He was handy around the house and used to spend hours tinkering at his workbench. He had a great love of family and enjoyed telling stories about the family and of his early days.

Surviving are his wife, four children, Roger (Cathy) Moore of Cary, NC, Shirley (Gary) Clark of Maryville, Rita (John) White of Rosewood Heights, and Duane (Sandy) Moore of Swansea, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, a brother, Joseph (Lola) of Bradenton, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, brothers Donald, Paul, and Charles, sisters Velma and Lois, and a grandson, James “Andy” Moore.

Visitation will be held 5-8 pm, Tuesday, February 21 at St Paul United Methodist Church, 10 North Center, Rosewood Heights. Visitation will continue at 10-10:30 am followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am Wednesday, February 22 at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
