Barbara Wooden Petitt, 84, passed on to a more peaceful life on October 31, 2017.
Born in East Alton on April 16, 1933, she was raised in Hartford by her parents along with nine brothers and sisters, all whom she loved very much.
Barbara had been employed as a bookkeeper at Millers Mutual Insurance Company in Alton for many years until her retirement.
She was a caring and devoted mother to Hugh Allan Petitt and to Lisa Petitt Vitoff (David) as well as a loving grandmother to Eden Joseph Vitoff and Ericka Juliana Vitoff.
She loved to laugh and tease her family- most recently her beloved son-in-law, David.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa and son-in-law, David; grandchildren, Eden and Juliana; sister, Shirley Schofield; brothers, Bob Wooden and Reverend George Wooden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Elbe and Nancy (Cox) Wooden; son Hugh Allan Petitt; sisters, Beatrice Hicks, Opal Freeman, Ann Archer; and brothers, Luther Wooden, Reverend Edwin Wooden and Jack Wooden.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, whose staff cared beautifully for her during the last year of her life.
