Barbara Wieckhorst, 71, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at home, peacefully, with her daughters by her side.
She was born on April 2, 1955, in Hartford, IL., the daughter of the late Gene and Elsie (Lawrence) Overton. She married Karl “Mike” Wieckhorst on August 31, 1974, in Wood River, and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2020.
Survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Kori and Jim Sloan of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Kacie Gallegos of Jerseyville, six grandchildren: Landon Gallegos, Drake Gallegos, Anna Sloan, Ava Sloan, James Sloan, Elsie Sloan, two brothers and sisters in law: Ron and Donna Overton of St. Charles, Missouri, Terry and Mary Overton of Rosewood Heights, a brother in law and sister in law: Rick and Sandy Wieckhorst of Wood River; a sister in law: Cindy Maguire of Alton, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Barb retired from Wood River Refinery in 2014.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother: Keith Overton, her baby sister: Cindy Mae, and her mother-in-law: Rose Wieckhorst.
In celebration of life, visitation will be held on, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with visitation from 10:30am to 12pm, with funeral services starting at 12pm, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Brian Magnuson will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
