Barbara J. Burgess, 80, went to be with the Lord at 5:45 pm Monday, October 19, 2015 at Heritage Health in Carlinville.
She was born on March 11, 1935 in Wood River, IL, the daughter of Edward Oscar and Helen Charlotte (Hinthorne) Lindquist.
She was formerly married to Charles G. Duckels of Carlinville. She later married Gillum “Jim” Burgess on December 19, 1987 in Meadowbrook. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2010.
Barbara was a secretary with the State of Missouri. She was a member of Emmanuel Free Methodist in Alton and was in involved in the Quilters Circle at the church. She was a past member of the Eastern Star in Chesterfield and the Christian Women’s Club of Alton. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Dan and Gail Duckels of Carlinville and Dean and Julia Duckels of Cottage Hills; grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Duckels, David Duckels, Whitney and Cory Brockmeyer, Lyndsay and Erik Casad and Julie and Danny Loftis; five great grandchildren, Tyson, Tyra, Dalton, Cassie, and Easton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Pritzker of Alton and Sherri and Larry Rose of Edwardsville; an aunt, Catherine Pomeroy of Fort Royal, VA and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an aunt, Helen Lindquist and a nephew, Rob Pritzker.
Visitation will be from 9 until services at 11 am Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Alton with Pastor Mark Scandrett officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church.
