Barbara Ann Gibson, 87, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 4:52 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Longevity of Granite City.
She was born July 18, 1939, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of the late Herbert H. and Florence H. (Eickelschulte) Wilper.
Barbara married Glenn Joseph Gibson on July 14, 1962, in Quincy, Illinois, and together they shared many wonderful years of marriage until his passing on July 17, 2015.
She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. Barbara enjoyed shopping and was a devoted fan of QVC and Kohl’s. She always appreciated finding a good coupon, bargain, or sale.
Throughout the years, Barbara enjoyed cross-stitching and created many beautiful pieces that her family will continue to cherish. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and keeping her mind active with Sudoku puzzles.
Above all else, Barbara’s family was the center of her life. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished the many special moments shared with those she loved.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Ernie Morris of Granite City; daughter-in-law, Skye Gibson of Arkansas; sister, Judy McCabe of Quincy; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Barrett of Missouri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Ann McClintic of Missouri; many nieces and nephews; other extended family members and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, David Glenn Gibson; two sons, Peter Gibson and Patrick Gibson; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Wilper; brother-in-law, Warren Barrett; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and John Holman; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Darlene McClintic.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.
Barbara will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or for Masses.
